The Senate, yesterday decided to set up a commission to conduct a holistic investigation of the killings, just as the upper house lamented that since 2011, various communities in southern Kaduna have consistently attacked the shepherds.

It happens, in the opening speech after the Christmas and New Year break, said: "Many developments in regulation require legislative and executive responses.
"Lasting solution can only be achieved if all of us-northerners, southerners, Christians, Muslims, politicians, non-political, traditional rulers and religious leaders- accept the fact that we are responsible and bring to confront and rid our communities of these evils."
In the Senate, although it was yet to publish the membership committee, resolutions of the Senate are the continuation of a proposal sponsored by Senator Danjuma La'ah (PDP, Kaduna South).
In his speech, Senator La'ah said: "The Senate notes that since 2011, various communities in Kaduna South Senatorial District of Kaduna State have been consistently attacked by herders, resulting in death, injury, loss of property and the displacement of communities."
According to him, from December 23, 2016, community Ambam, Gasket, Dangoma, Tsonje, Pasankori, Gidan Waya and Farin Gada in Iama'a and Kaura councils are under attack by the shepherds.

"In Southern Kaduna, 808 people were killed in 53 villages around the four tips, and 57 people were injured, agricultural products is estimated at N5.5 billion were destroyed and 1,422 houses and 16 churches burned.
"In the past year, we have witnessed a harvest of killing these predatory shepherds with several cases of massacre in Agatha, Benue State; Uzo Uwani, Enugu state, with several attacks in Taraba, Delta and Edo states, to mention a few."
Following the recommendations of Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, that the proposal should not be discussed in order to avoid bad blood, additional contributions have not been located.
In his speech, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said: "We condemn in the totality of depravity are exposed on the streets Kafanchan.
"This Senate will not pay lip service to it, nor will you sit idly by and watch innocent Nigerians have been killed on the basis of their religion, ethnic group or political persuasion."
