10 dead as C-River community goes to war over human head for burial chief

The alleged beheading of a young boy by the head hunter, apparently for the funeral ceremony of a high chief, weekend, led to hostilities between the two neighboring communities in Obubra Local Government Area Cross River State, which has left more than 10 dead and many houses razed.
The conflict between the people and their Ogwurude Oyidah neighbors began when the head hunters from Oyidah community allegedly took the head boys that are intended for use in the funeral ceremony of a major. A resident, Clement Ekpe said: "Some hunters head raced Okada boy, who was returning from Oyidah Market with the lady and caught up with him in Ogwurude Junction. They were looking for a lady to start in the bush, killing a boy and cut off his head." when the lady came home and told me what happened, some Ogwurude young men rushed to the intersection, where they found the decapitated body of a young man. They followed the blood on the road to Oyidah community. "They met Oyidah villages Head of the incident and demanded that those who carried out the work to be brought out and handed over to the police." However, the village chief could not produce the perpetrators and that led to retaliatory attacks that night from Ogwurude people. "Another source, that he could not confirm the exact number of those killed in Oyidah said seven people were killed, but killed the two persons from Ogwurude in turmoil, and many houses were set on fire in both communities. Mr. Jude Ngaji, Cross River State security adviser, said peace returned to the feuding communities with security operatives deployed in the area, while efforts to meet with the leaders of both communities to find a lasting solution to the conflict.
