How APC senators planned to overthrow Ndume

Immediate-past majority leader of the Senate, But ndum not new to parliamentary politics. He was a critical voice in the House of Representatives, before his move to the Red Chamber. Ndum also showed his political skill in 2011, when he led against the factional chairman of the National Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff and defeated him.

But his political wisdom, it is nevertheless subsided on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, your party members, which until the recent fall out, dinner and married him. Like a thief in the night, removing ndum came as a rude shock to some people.

For Keen political observers familiar with the interaction in parliamentary politics, ndum fall came quite late. He has since incurred the wrath of the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and his core of loyalists, led by Dino Melayu.

On 14 December 2016, the senators, the executive session, refused to confirm Ibrahim Magu as the substantive President of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). They based their action on the safety report, send them the Department of State Services (DSS).

Ndum, told State House correspondents shortly after the Senate rejected Magu to the Red Chamber did not reject it. He also stated that he attacked the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. David Babachir Lawal has not been charged by the Senate.

He said: "It is not a command is given. Resolution of the Senate's recommendation; it is not the law. What the Senate considered a work in progress, because it was an interim report.

"This is the same public that is interested and concerned to know what we did as the Senate about these allegations. The committee issued an interim report and interim report seemed to accuse the SGF, the consequences that the indictment is what is recommended, but we have not arrived because I report the temporary. Okay, take interim report, given to the public until it concludes the whole investigation.

"I hear, coming from the SGF that he was not given a fair trial, so that the debate is not over. We can give him time to go before the committee and cleanse themselves."

His claim, which sharply contradict the position of the Senate, did not go down well. Twenty-four hours after he made a statement, a spokesman for Senate, Abdullahi Sabi, told correspondents of the National Assembly to ndum acted alone and that his statement does not reflect the attitude and view of the Senate.

Senator Sabi countered: "The call for national office is crucial. So, I am here on the basis of a series of calls and text messages from you about what you thought you were in conflict messages. It has become critical for the Senate to clarify the issues. 8th Senate believes in his integrity; we support and promote the rule of law that is the main thing about our democracy. we are committed to doing things differently to stabilize the political community in the collective interest of Nigerians.
"I would like to clarify the following. I have kept votes and proceedings on Thursday. We had two votes and the procedure because we had to go to a joint session to receive Bukhari.

"Our voices and actions are the official records of what happened in the chamber. I met this Thursday in the sense of the Senate to announce that, since the report of security, we have not been able to confirm Magu. Then we rejected and returned nomination Bukhari for further actions. "

Top political groups in the Senate, and hold the view that the removal of ndum, was part of the final agreement reached between members of the Unity Forum and Like Minds in the Senate.

Sarak, middle of last year, set up a committee to reconcile damaged legislators. The first tranche of the recommendations of the committee, was implemented in the last quarter of 2016, when the Senators Oluremi Tinubu and Marafa get juicy committees, environmental protection and Petroleum (downstream) respectively.

But plans to remove ndum, began in mid-December, a few days after the Senate started the Christmas break. Multiple sources familiar with the development told Daily Sun that the senator Melayu, advocated his removal.

It was also gathered that, contrary to the claims that there was a meeting where the APC lawmakers agreed to remove ndum, nothing like that happened. Instead, signatures were collected between last Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, when the session is happening, Melayu and others who led the removal ndum is still collecting signatures.

Sources in the Senate told Daily Sun that ndum is given the opportunity to announce his resignation soon after the required number of signatures have been secured, but his departure from the floor near the end of the plenary gave Senator and President of the Senate no option but to declare his dismissal.

"Chief Whip and Deputy President of the Senate are mandated to convince senators ndum to resign on the floor of the disappearance Tuesday, but ndum of them give not given a choice. The letter was delivered and had to be read after it is signed by the vast majority of senators involved, "said the senator in confidence, adding that more than 80 percent of Like Minds senators signed notice removal.

Ndum, which is still expected to provide resistance, after an earlier claim that he was unaware of his dismissal, yesterday's turnaround and accepted his fate. Instead, he made a long speech, which did not result in any applause from his colleagues.

Ndum said: "Mr. President, I've talked to you before sitting to continue the event that took place yesterday (Tuesday) in my absence, I went to pray when there is a change in leadership in particular one that I was affected.

"Just like APC Senate club has the right to say that they have lost confidence in you, I think it should be given the opportunity to say something for the record. I did nothing wrong in the best of my knowledge, but as I said, 38 of my colleagues signed, agree is ". Ekweremadu who came in ndum defense, welcomed his statesmanship and invited him to always give their support to the leadership of the Senate.

Ekweremadu noted: "Let me on behalf of the rest of our colleagues, thank you for your service in the Senate and indeed the National Assembly. You were a member of the House of Representatives leadership 'at some point, you've come to the Senate and held a very important task of the Committee, and then rose to become the leader of the Senate.

removal ndum may have signaled the end of the crisis in the Senate. Perhaps he reconciled the feuding Unity Forum and Minds Like Senator in the Upper Legislative Chamber, against your opponents in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It is unclear whether or not the remains of the Senate, who are still rooting for ndum will spring up a surprise and take their pound of flesh. Sarak, Lawan and their allies may have won the first round of a long battle, but it is far from over.
