The girls were abducted from their dorm, April 14, 2014 Boko Haram insurgents.
The President, who regretted the unfortunate incident, spoke in commemoration of 10,000 days of the disappearance of the girls.
He commended the Nigerian army to rescue three girls, as well as the release of 21 of them through a negotiation with the insurgents, expressing hope that the others would soon be found and reunited with their families.
Buhari, in a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina, said: "We are grateful to God that on this day a reference point, we are not completely in the depths of despair, but buoyed with hope that our daughters still be reunited with their families and loved ones.
"Three of them were recovered by our military diligent, while the freedom of the other 21 has been secured through engagement with their captors. We are confident that many more will still come back as soon as possible.
"I salute the fortitude of distraught parents. Just like a parent, I identify with their situation. Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months, months turned to years, and today, is 1,000 days. The tears never dry , the pain is in our hearts. But hope remains constant, eternal, and we believe that our pains will be assuaged.
"Our hopes will not be shattered and our hearts will be glad, as more and more of our daughters return. It is a goal we remain firmly committed."
Buhari also praised all those who have been at the forefront of the recovery of the girls, both nationally and internationally, adding: "One day soon, we will all rejoice together. Our intelligence and security forces are unrelenting and all we need, we remain resolute.
"Chibok community, Nigeria and indeed, the world, will still grow in fraternity, to accommodate our girls stayed home. We trust God for this eventuality."
